Tonight

It's Wednesday night, a "school night". You want to hang out with some cool people but you aren't sure where to go. Why not head down to the...

Central Oregon Blogger Meet-up
Wednesday, April 30, 5:30ish at the Summit, Downtown Bend
To RSVP visit this event's page on Upcoming and click "I'm Going!", leave a comment, or email me at jenblackledge at gmail.com

The first blogger meetup was a big success! Since then there's been a lot of growth and new folks have popped up in our local "blogosphere". Meetups like this are a nice chance for all of us to gather, unwind, and put some faces together with the blogs.

This event is primarily intended for bloggers who wish to meet other bloggers. If you don't have a blog, then this may not be the get-together for you. So, if you just can't stand not being there and don't already have a blog... what are you waiting for?!

Sunshine

Is it spring? If not, it sure feels like it!

Stellar's Jay

The birds have taken over our backyard, much to the delight of our cat. He seems to think that the dining room window is a "bird TV". He will sit on the sill for hours, chirruping and singing to the jays, robins, and other backyard visitors. He has no desire to actually go outside and chase them though. Thank goodness, he's way to fat and lazy for that!

We spent midday sitting in the sun, watching lacrosse at Mountain View High School. It was pretty easy to follow, and what a beautiful afternoon. It's a bit hazy to the west, due to the preventative burns. Other than that, it was very pleasant and warm. I can finally wear sandals outside again!

Lacrosse

Tonight we (well, "we grownups"... the kids will be home with a sitter) are off to a birthday party. It's planned for somewhere with a deck, so we can spend more time outside.

I guess it's time to dig out the sunscreen!

Quiz

In (better late than never) honor of Earth Day... Take this quiz from Earthbound Farms. If you score 9 out of 10 (or better) they will send you a free shopping tote. I don't know about you, but I love using these types of shopping bags. We have several from various stores in town and (when I remember them) they are great - they hold more than the cheezy plastic bags that most places have, and are much easier to carry. We even have a fancy-schmancy insulated one (that zips shut) from the Trader Joe's in Eugene.

And it's good for the environment to boot. Every little bit helps!

Tulips

I like flowers. Not necessarily the kind sent in a bouquet. Usually the kind that I can enjoy in my yard, and occasionally snip to bring inside. I wish these were from my garden, but they're not. I bought these at Trader Joe's (only $2.99 a bunch!) about a week ago. I think tulips are at their most interesting and beautiful just before they drop their petals, like these!

Tulips

Yes, you read this right. It's still snowing in Bend. In April. Even for Bend, that's late for there to be snow in town. My poor tulips don't know what to do. Mine are only a few inches tall, and started to lose hope that they will ever bloom this year. One day, it's 60 degrees and spring-like outside. The next day (or two or three) it snows again. At this point, I don't dare hope that they will find it in their little flower souls to bloom this year. If I were them, I would be pissed too.

On the other hand, the lilac bushes still seem to be doing OK. They are somewhat sheltered, against the South side of the house. They are growing, spreading, and putting out new leaves. From what I have heard lilacs like a good, cold winter. I wonder how they like a good, cold spring?

Bounce

Christopher Robin: You're next, Tigger. Jump!
Tigger: Jump? Tiggers don't jump. They bounce.

Bouncing... it's not just for Tiggers. Or for toddlers and "little kids". Today, we all bounced. Sometimes, we bounced up high. We bounced on slides, steps and mushrooms. We bounced in castles, elephants, and an obstacle course. They bounced balls, bounced on hippity-hops, hula-hooped, and balanced on pogo balls. The kids bounced for close to three hours. I took many, many breaks. It turns out bouncing is hard work!!

Therefore we are all very, very tired.

Pepe's

We went to Pepe's for dinner tonight. When I expressed my sadness that they were closing to Pepe's daughter (the owner) tonight, her jaw dropped.

Pepe's in Bend is not closing. At least, not yet. She said they have considered a change, but nothing is a "done deal". We had a wonderful dinner there tonight - great food and friendly service as always.

I know not all Bendites feel the same way about Pepe's, but many of you do. Please show your support to this great family restaurant, and help convince them that Bend wants them to stay!

'Za

Boo takes classes at a gymnastics facility up in Redmond. It's right up her alley... she's a bouncy, bendy little gal. Not like me, since I never could do the splits even during my younger and bendier days.

One of the best parts is between school and gymastics class we get to have a little "girls' time". There isn't enough time to come all the way home, we'd just have to turn around and come straight back. We usually go to a coffee shop but today Boo wanted pizza. So we went to Geno's.

I really like Geno's. It's probably my favorite pizza, period. (I haven't tried Paizano's yet, though... sorry Kina!) I wish they had a store in Bend. Instead, every once in a while the stars align and we make it to the one in Redmond. Yumm...

Spring?

It's been a rough spring, weather-wise. No... I am not necessarily complaining. And I am not surprised either. But after a "warm snap" in February caused us to cancel the ice skating portion of Boo's birthday party... you can definitely say the weather is keeping us on our toes.

And I am SO glad I haven't attempted to "put up" the winter clothes yet. Just to give you an idea of the roller-coaster ride we are on...

April snow showers

In between the sporadic snow days, Scott is finding lots of opportunities to play golf. Since temperatures are supposed to reach the 60's and 70's by this weekend he already has a couple of tee times.

I am taking golf lessons in two weeks. Wanna take any bets on what they weather will be like by then? Yeah... me neither!

Hair

Just a quick hair update... thanks to Laura at Curl Up & Dye for the great new 'do! :) If you are looking for someone new, I highly recommend her!

Not a huge difference but she added some nice "spring-y" highlights and some layers. Enough of a difference to make me happy, but not so different that Scott changed the locks on the house. Yeah!
