Snow Run

It was with trepidation that I stepped out into the cold this morning, with Yak Traks stretched over my running shoes. It was a beautiful morning though. The clouds were burning off and blue sky was taking over.

Crunch, crunch, crunch ... we walked the first few blocks. The cold air filled my chest and, at first, shocked my lungs and chilled me. But soon the coolness started to feel good. Then we picked up the pace. Gradual hills up were tough, and the sticky, wet snow balled up in clumps on my shoes. With a quick STOMP! to break it off, I was on my way again.

Winding past parks and neighborhoods, I grew warmer and started to shed some of my winter layers. Cars sped past, and other walkers and runners were ready with a smile and a wave. For a moment we weren't strangers - we were in this together.

As we neared the end of our route, drips of melting snow started to shower us from overhanging trees. This snow will not be around for long, but there's sure to be more on the way.
