I like me some good fried chicken. Most everyone around here thinks it's weird but one of my favorite "comfort food" meals is actually fried chicken & waffles. Yes, this is legit. There are a lot of restaurants that specialize in this delightful combination of foods, but sadly none of them are in Bend. And judging from the funny look on your face right now it probably wouldn't go over well here anyways. Sigh.
And up until recently good fried chicken was about as scarce as fried chicken and waffles. Sure, they offer it at plenty of places in town (KFC, Black Bear, and so on). But none had that crispy crust with just a little bit of spice that makes fried chicken so verrry tasty. A wimpy crust just won't do it. Even worse is bland, dry meat. I have been living a sad, sad fried chicken-less life for a while. Guess it's my fault for being so picky.
Yesterday Scott surprised me by coming home with some of the BEST fried chicken I've ever had. Crunchy, moist, and ... hey! There's some kick to it!! Where did it come from?
The Stop 'n' Go Market at the corner of 27th and Hwy 20, right in our neck of the woods.
Now if only they had waffles...

so what do you eat on/with the waffles? syrup? gravy? chicken grease? Do you wrap little pieces of chicken in them to make waffle tacos?
For the record, I'd totally try it, I'm just curious about technique.

I live in the south so, I'm with you about "Good" fried chicken... Just never tried the "and waffles" part. Question, is the fried chicken in your combo with or with out the bone?
When you order "Fried Chicken & Waffles" the chicken is on the bone.
Fried chicken off the bone is a chicken strip. :)
